Charging
The car can be charged from a UK 13A domestic socket with the included adapter and cable. It takes about 2.5 kW - less than some kettles.
There's also a Type 2 cable for connecting to a 22kW public charger, often found in streets and private carparks.
MG5 takes 6.6 kW from a home 7 kW charger.
In the front is the charging socket that accepts the above chargers as well at the fast and rapid chargers found in motorway services at currently (November 2022) around 69p per kWh and sometimes free in Scotland and some supermarket carparks.
The maths: Battery has a stated capacity of 53 kWh of which 49 are usable. At 3.7 miles to 1 kWh, I can travel 49 x 3.7 = 181 miles. For my long journeys, I would want a break after 150 miles so that I can find a working charger that's not in use! In practice, most people charge at home at a night rate of 7.5p per kWh.
More maths: The cost of fuelling a diesel car to get 181 miles at 40 mpg and £2 per litre is 181/40 x 2 = £9.05. A motorway fast/rapid charger at 60p per kWh, times 80% of 49 kWh would cost £23.52 (I think my maths is wrong because the most I've ever spent was £17). The 80% refers to the maximum charge for a fast charger.
Many ChargePlace Scotland public chargers are free and some major UK supermarkets have free chargers in their carparks
Unless I'm travelling across the country, I would top up once a week at home, preferably up to 90% as the handbook suggests, with a monthly full charge to 'balance the cells.'
